Week 24 - 01/28/18 - Group Email

Hello Everyone,

Today we got transfer emails! I am staying in Shonan and my new comp is Elder Wilcox! He's from Utah and on his 13th transfer so I'm excited.

Last pday it snowed way hard for most of the day! Members said that it was the most it had snowed in the past 4 years. I love snow so I was pumped! In the evening, after pday ended we just called people for three hours because it was freezing haha. Talking on the phone in Japanese is still really hard and pretty awkward sometimes but I am getting better!

On Thursday, while we were weekly planning at the church, some guy came and knocked on the church door. I opened it and he said he wanted us to teach him. He seemed a bit off but we sat down with him anyway and talked for a while. He said he had been studying the Bible and Book of Mormon for the past 10 years, been to church a few times and wants to be baptized. But then at the end of the lesson he wouldn't give us a phone number and said he would just call, so kinda weird. Well we asked the bishop about him yesterday and turns out he's not mentally there and has had violent outburts in the church so he's never allowed to come back. I was excited that maybe we would have one of those crazy stories where a golden investigator comes to us but nope haha.

This week we found the best apartment buildings ever to knock doors at. There are four of them and they are all 14 stories tall and not lock outs! So the past 3 days or so we have done one building a night and it's been way nice. I have been focusing on teaching about the Book of Mormon to people because I think it's the coolest book. I was able to give lots of them out this past week! I've realized that a lot of people aren't going to be interested in meeting with us  again but I know if we can just give them a Book of Mormon and testify then maybe they will read it and it will touch their hearts! Or you never know, someone else could curiously pick it up and read it!

Have a great week!

Week 23 - 01/21/18 - Group Email

Hello Everyone,

This week we had a zone conference in Yamato and the church there is so sweet! It looks like a temple! Zone conference was great though and it was fun to see all the other people in the zone.

On Saturday we had a Mochitsuki party at our church. You use a giant wooden hammer to make mochi (mashed up rice) then you put anko (bean paste) or other things on it and eat it. I really like and ate a ton haha. One our PIs from english class showed up which was a surprise but so awesome! His name is Shohei and he's a way good dude, I love him! Saturday evening we had a zone blitz at the Tsujido eki. I got paired with a missionary who is transfer 1 so that was interesting haha. Our Japanese wasn't the greatest but we made do.

We found a really solid investigator named Christian this week from the Philipines. He speaks English and seemed really interested. We are planning to meet him this Wednesday so we'll see what happnes. Besides that nothing else to really mention from this week.

Week 22 - 01/14/18 - Group Email

Hello Everyone,

We had a pretty slow week full of lots of finding so not too much to write about this week. On wednesday Hanson Shimai from my district emergency transfered to Kofu and we got a new Bean Chan from the Brazil MTC. Now I'm not the youngest missionary, yay!! Also I officially finished my training! This transfer is 9 weeks though so still two more weeks till we get transfer emails.

On Thursday we got a new fridge from the mission home so we had to move our old super heavy one out and put the new one in. That was fun. Yesterday we went to the rest home and gave the sacrament to sister ushio. She's 95 and the cutest old lady ever! After that we went to our mission leaders house to help him fix his computer. He said 3 months ago the sound stopped working so he just quit using it because he couldn't figure it. Well turns out it was muted... lol. But we got a chance to serve a member so that was unusual! Then we had a lesson with Pablo planned last night but he wouldn't answer when we got there. He called us an hour later, said he totally spaced it and was in the tub for the past two hours haha, gotta love our man Pablo. Really nothing else to mention for this week

Also, Romans 8 is a way good chapter I read this week so everyone go read it!

Week 21 - 01/07/18 - Group Email

This week we ate with members nearly everyday because of new years! Literally all the food was amazing, it was a good week for sure. For new years day my comp and I went to check out a big shrine in our area because we heard lots of people would be there. Well we got there and I felt like I was in Disneyland on a Saturday it was insane how many people were there! We had to wait in a line as wide as the street for 20 minutes just to enter. It was a fun experience though and they had tents set up with any Japanese food you can imagine!

Yesterday we were sitting in sacrament and one of our English students showed up out of nowhere. He had never been to church before so that awesome! His name's shohei and he's way cool. After church we had a lesson with our man Pablo which went well and then our second lesson with a new investigator Oscar from Peru, he speaks Japanese thankfully.

On Wednesday we had a lunch appointment with the Kaneko family which is almost 40 minutes away on bike. Anyway that was fun but on the way back we were riding down a pretty long windy hill and I was right behind Elder de Andrade. Out of nowhere he hit some gravel goin like 20 mph and totally slid out and ate it pretty bad! Luckily he was all good, it was wild for sure.

Then on Saturday the weirdest/saddest thing happened. We were streeting by the train station and saw an old man (80 y/o about) walking the same direction as us. So we caught up to him said hi, told him we're missionaries, and asked him where he's headed. He said lunch then for some reason started to speed up, almost running for a few steps but his feet couldn't keep up and he totally face planted, literally straight to his face. He wasn't able to catch his body with his hands and it was the saddest thing I've ever seen! He got a bloody nose and seemed pretty disoriented for a sec but was okay. Luckily a woman nearby knew what to do....run in 7-11 and get the cashier lol. Eventually we helped him up and the guy fom 7-11 waited with him till his bus came. We still don't know why he started running, it was either because he really didn't wanna hear what we had to say or he was trying to catch his bus. We'll assume it was the latter haha.
