Week 97 - 06/23/19 - Pictures

Week 97 - 06/23/19 - Group Email

Hi everyone,

I started my last transfer this week and my new comp is fresh out of the MTC. His name is Elder Muranaka and he's from Hokkaido, Japan. We're completely different but we'll make it work!

I'll just briefly write some things that happened this week:
- The first time my comp shared a scripture from the Book of Mormon he got us a return appointment! Bean chan power is real I guess.
- We went to a missionary prep class yesterday with a 17 year old in our ward that's thinking about a mission. Pres and sister Warnick were there and that was the last time I'll get to see them before they go home this Thursday. 😭
- I got a message from a guy I met almost a year ago with Elder Loper who said he read the whole Book of Mormon! Way nuts! Way confused though because when I asked what he thought he basically just said "I didn't understand the religious references" and that was it. He also just quit replying after that...😒
- We had our second lesson with the family we are teaching and we taught them about Jesus Christ. It was a way good time and the two daughters said they want to come to church when they are free on Sunday! Please pray for them!

That's about it for the week. Chapter one of the second book of "Saints" is in the July Ensign just FYI. πŸ™
Have a great week!

Week 96 - 06/16/19 - Pictures

Week 96 - 06/16/19 - Group Email

Hi everyone,

This week was way busy! Definitely the highlight was that we started teaching a mom and her 5 kids!
The mom started coming to English class two weeks ago and we were able to set up the Free Family English Program (30 minutes English, 30 minutes Gospel) with her. We had our first lesson on Thursday and my comp and I were stressin hard because we both haven't taught many women let alone women and their children but it went way well!

We just got transfer emails. I'm gonna be staying Hodogaya and training a new missionary! I'm excited to train my last transfer!!

We starting teaching another guy named Yabuki. He was a referral from missionaries in a different area. We visited and quickly realized that this guy is an interesting dude. However, he invited us in and we were able to teach him the restoration. It sounds like he has had a super rough past but he has a strong desire to change his life and believes that Jesus Christ can help him do that! We offered to help clean up his apartment because it was an absolute mess so we ended up returning on Sunday to help with that. We cleaned for about 3 hours then had a lesson. At the end of cleaning we had over 10 bags full of trash and honestly still had a lot more to clean. He lives in a tiny one room apartment so just try and imagine that. He was super grateful though so that made me happy. We're looking forward to teaching him!

On Saturday we went to a Violin/Piano concert in Shonandai with our friend Shunsuke. The two musicians were both members and they were insanely good. It was nice to relax and be entertained for a couple hours haha.

Another woman we started teaching named Kyoko said that after praying she feels a strong desire to be baptized! She didn't want to decide on a date but said most likely in July she will be ready. Things are looking up for her!

Some other highlights:
- Matsuura ε…„εΌŸ made us a parfait to celebrate the end of the transfer. (He makes all the missionaries one at the beginning and end of every transfer).
- We had zone conference in Yamate which is where the first missionaries in Japan arrived. We learned lots about the history of the church in Japan and got to hear from the oldest convert in Japan! Oh and also I was lucky enough to translate... 😣 During one part our pres talked about the 2011 earthquake in Japan and I was struggling so bad haha. All I know is that professional translating is not my destined career..
- We had a Korean food party with the YSA after church yesterday and our friend Shinjirou came. I got to try some new Korean food!

Have a great week!

Konnichiwa!

Not a whole lot happened this week but here are some highlights!
- I had the opportunity to do another baptismal interview but unfortunately the guy what not prepared for baptism. He just needs to work through his smoking problem and he'll be ready. He shared his testimony to me and it was very powerful. The church has literally changed his life!
- Rainy season (Tsuyu) has officially started which means lots of knocking doors instead of hitting the streets...πŸ˜…
- We met an old English class student unexpectedly and he invited us to a party that night! It was an okonomiyaki party and I LOVE okonomiyaki so it was a good time. Lots of other English class students were there so we fit in. Weird part was that they all had their beers while my comp and I had our cokes lol.

Love,

Week 94 - 06/02/19 - Pictures

Week 94 - 06/02/19 - Group Email

Hello everyone!

On Thursday I was able to do a baptismal interview for a 19 year old kid in my old area of Atsugi named Shibata. It was a great experience and he was able to enter the waters of baptism on Saturday!

On Friday Elder Wada who is a member of the 70 came to our mission so we had a big conference. I learned a lot from him and he got us all pumped up for missionary work. We also were able to ask him and the rest of the missionaries about one of the people we are teaching. At the end he hit us with a prophecy that if we get the members involved with him that it may take time but he WILL eventully get baptized! So that was cool and we're really gonna try and focus on him from here on out.

The guy Elder Wada was talking about (Tokushima san) came to church yesterday! It was his first time and the members were super great with fellowshipping him.

Went on splits with Elder Pack the Canadian. He's into mountains and all that good stuff so we had fun talking together. We had one lesson and the guy talked for about an hour fifteen and we got about fifteen minutes so that's always fun :/

My comp and I taught FHE at the mission home and there were about 60 people there. It was went well though and we had fun!

That's about it for the week. Hope ya'll have a good one!
