Week 96 - 06/16/19 - Group Email

Hi everyone,

This week was way busy! Definitely the highlight was that we started teaching a mom and her 5 kids!
The mom started coming to English class two weeks ago and we were able to set up the Free Family English Program (30 minutes English, 30 minutes Gospel) with her. We had our first lesson on Thursday and my comp and I were stressin hard because we both haven't taught many women let alone women and their children but it went way well!

We just got transfer emails. I'm gonna be staying Hodogaya and training a new missionary! I'm excited to train my last transfer!!

We starting teaching another guy named Yabuki. He was a referral from missionaries in a different area. We visited and quickly realized that this guy is an interesting dude. However, he invited us in and we were able to teach him the restoration. It sounds like he has had a super rough past but he has a strong desire to change his life and believes that Jesus Christ can help him do that! We offered to help clean up his apartment because it was an absolute mess so we ended up returning on Sunday to help with that. We cleaned for about 3 hours then had a lesson. At the end of cleaning we had over 10 bags full of trash and honestly still had a lot more to clean. He lives in a tiny one room apartment so just try and imagine that. He was super grateful though so that made me happy. We're looking forward to teaching him!

On Saturday we went to a Violin/Piano concert in Shonandai with our friend Shunsuke. The two musicians were both members and they were insanely good. It was nice to relax and be entertained for a couple hours haha.

Another woman we started teaching named Kyoko said that after praying she feels a strong desire to be baptized! She didn't want to decide on a date but said most likely in July she will be ready. Things are looking up for her!

Some other highlights:
- Matsuura 兄弟 made us a parfait to celebrate the end of the transfer. (He makes all the missionaries one at the beginning and end of every transfer).
- We had zone conference in Yamate which is where the first missionaries in Japan arrived. We learned lots about the history of the church in Japan and got to hear from the oldest convert in Japan! Oh and also I was lucky enough to translate... 😣 During one part our pres talked about the 2011 earthquake in Japan and I was struggling so bad haha. All I know is that professional translating is not my destined career..
- We had a Korean food party with the YSA after church yesterday and our friend Shinjirou came. I got to try some new Korean food!

Have a great week!
