Week 32 - 03/25/18 - Group Email

Hello everyone!

Not too much to report on this week but a few things happened. First was last pday we went to Costco! I got lucky enough to have a costco in this new area so we will go once or twice a transfer to do some shopping! The best part was the pizza for sure.

We have a potential investigator from Pakistan so we went to visit him one day. Well he invited us in but was really only interested in showing us youtube videos of some guy explaining how Islam is the true religion haha. We gave him a pamphlet and hopefully can give him a Book of Mormon in his native language called Urdu. But when we told him we had to go bike home he said he would drive us and take us to dinner. So he took us to eat Indian Curry and then drove us to the eki near our apartment!

This week two of the Elders in my apartment wanted a blessing and one of the sister missionaries so I got to participate in 3 blessings this week! It was kinda crazy because I think I had only done one or two before that.

At church I spoke since I just moved to this ward and it went well. I felt pretty good about my Japanese but it still is a bit intimidating speaking in Japanese in sacrament! After church we did a YSA party and made our own gyoza. It was super fun and we got to eat some bomb food. I also played the piano in zone conference this past week. I played the same song I played for Rach's farewell. It went good!
Hope everyone has a great week!

Week 31 - 03/18/18 - Group Email

Hello Everyone!

This has been a super busy week and I finally transfered!!
My new area is called Atsugi, it's neighboring my previous area and is still in the same zone. My comp is Elder Riggs and he's a way good dude from Texas. I'm pumped to work with him! Also I'm finally in a 4 man apartment. One of the Elders in my apartment is named Elder Kawasaki from Maryland and he's training a kid from Costa Rica. Another plus is that my new apartment is way nicer than my old one!

We saw a miracle on Tuesday before I transfered! The whole entire transfer we had been trying to get into contact with this guy named Andy from China who came to church twice around Christmas and is an awesome guy. We had tried to visit him a ton but he never answered and we didn't have his contact info so we were about to drop him and move on. Well literally two days before the transfer ended we ran into him coming out of the train station! He happened to get off work early that specific day. The reason it was a miracle is because I was able to introduce him to my comp before I left and we exchanged contact info. Then yesterday my comp said he came to church and loved it!

On pday one of our investigators took us to a place called Hakone and bought us dinner which was super nice of him. He said because Americans were nice to him when he traveled to America he wanted to return the favor. Hakone is a little town by a lake about a hour and a half drive away and up in the mountains! Not many missionaries go there becaise its on the very edge of the mission and expensive to get there so we got lucky.

I got into my new area on Thursday and we've been way busy since. We had four investigators at church today! The most we ever had in Shonan was two. The ward also seems super solid here and really supportive of the missionaries. After our main sacrament we had spanish sacrament and I was able to accompany on the piano for the first time in sacrament! During the meeting  they had me introduce myself and share a testimony. Well after the meeting one of the members let me know that I accidently said I studied Japanese in highschool for 20 years instead of 2 lol.

One of the kids in my apartment Elder Solari Garcia likes running so I finally got to run this week! It was so nice to hope I'll get to run a lot this transfer!

A really good chapter from the New testament that everyone should go read is Hebrews 11! It talks about all the things that have been accomplished by faith and is a really good chapter.
Also the conference talk "Our Priesthood Legacy" from April 1995 by Elder Holland is a bomb talk. Has some awesome stories in it!

Hope you are all doing well! 頑張って!

Week 30 - 03/11/18 - Group Email

Hello Everyone,

We've had a nice and busy week! The weather has been warming up lately but it's also rained a ton. I'm definitely done with the cold and looking forward to the springtime! Last pday we went to this island called enoshima which was lots of fun. The weather wasn't ideal but we had the island to ourselves so it was a good time. On the island there are tons of shrines and temples to look at. We also did this thing  where you put your feet in a tank full of little fish and they eat the dead skin off your feet. It felt super weird!

We finally had a lesson with our investigator Tazaki! It had literally been over 70 days since our last lesson... that sort of thing happens alot here in Japan. We had a member present for that which is usually a good thing but sometimes the members get a bit carried away. He essentially touched on every point of the gospel and seemed to think it was necessary to talk in depth about the war in heaven, Satan and possession haha. So that was an interesting lesson.

On Friday we did some service at an old folks home. We went around and changed some sheets on the beds. We are planning to do that once a week from here on out so I'm excited for that. On Saturday our mission put on this event called Polynesian night. Pretty much the whole mission was there and tons of other people. Missionaries from different polynesian islands represented their island and did lots of singing and dancing.

I hope everyone is doing well!
