Week 75 - 01/20/19 - Group Email

Konnichiwa!

Pretty regular week here but I'll try and give some highlights.
So, there is a less active member named Furuya who we have been working with these past few weeks. This week I called him every night and read the Book of Mormon with him and chatted about his day. He's an older single guy and loves it when I call. The first thing he always says when he answers is "Dean Choro?? Matte imashita!" (Elder Dean?? I was waiting!) haha I love it. He also has a dope telescope in his apartment that he bought recently but still doesn't know how to use. Once he finishes reading the instructions we are gonna look at mars, venus and all that good stuff. He loves space stuff haha. Its been cool to see how much it means to him that we take time to visit and talk with him.

We had a few other lessons with less actives this week that were all great. One of them came to church yesterday! A different guy we met with stopped coming to church about 40 years ago because he had lots of doubts and questions that no one would help him answer. He said everyone just told him to pray and read and that his questions weren't important. I totally don't agree so we told him we will help him find some answers to the best of our ability and he was pumped! Hopefully we can get him back to church here soon.

This week we also had zone conference. I had to give another training about using the Book of Mormon and it went okay. Glad it's over though.

We went on splits with the ZLs the other day which was a good time. One of them came to Japan with me so it was a way fun chilling with him at the apartment. Before bed I gotta play a game of shogi (Japanese chess) with Elder Brimhall. He wrecked me though lol.

Here's a quote I like from President Oaks in the Book of Mormon institute manual:
“The Final Judgment is not just an evaluation of a sum total of good and evil acts—what we have done. It is an acknowledgment of the final effect of our acts and thoughts—what we have become. It is not enough for anyone just to go through the motions. The commandments, ordinances, and covenants of the gospel are not a list of deposits required to be made in some heavenly account. The gospel of Jesus Christ is a plan that shows us how to become what our Heavenly Father desires us to become”

Have a great week everyone!
